Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Ananda is a peer wellness platform built for the South Asian diaspora, operated by Alnilam LLC. We are headquartered in the United States. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at privacy@makemyananda.com.

2. What We Collect

• Account information: Your name, email address, and password (hashed — we never store it in plain text).
• Community preferences: The community group you select during signup (e.g., student, immigrant).
• Content you post: Posts and comments you create in peer circles.
• Wearable data (optional): If you connect an Oura Ring, we store sleep score, readiness score, HRV balance, and resting heart rate. This is entirely optional.
• Usage data: Pages visited, articles read, reading progress. We use this to improve the product.
• Technical data: IP address, browser type, and device type for security and analytics.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To provide and improve the Ananda platform
• To match you with relevant peer circles and resources
• To display your wellness data on your personal dashboard
• To keep your account secure
• To communicate with you about your account (no marketing emails without your consent)

We do not sell your data. Ever.

4. Data Sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties except:

• Service providers: We use Supabase (database hosting) and Vercel (hosting). Both are bound by data processing agreements.
• Legal requirements: If required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

Your posts in peer circles are visible to other logged-in Ananda users. They are not indexed by search engines.

5. Wearable Data

If you connect an Oura Ring, your biometric data is stored securely and used only to display your personal wellness dashboard. We do not share this data with any third party. You can disconnect and permanently delete all wearable data at any time from Settings → Wearables.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete all associated personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and all associated data
• Export your data

8. Security

We use industry-standard security practices: passwords are hashed with bcrypt, connections are encrypted via HTTPS, and access to our database is restricted. However, no system is 100% secure — please use a strong, unique password.

9. Children

Ananda is not intended for users under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by email or by posting a notice on the platform. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
